What Can We Expect to See In the Peaky Blinders Movie?

Peaky Blinders fans were treated to the end of the show as a television series just a couple of weeks ago, with millions greeting the final episode with praise. The episode brought an end to the show as we know it, as the seventh, and final outing for the Peaky Blinders will be in a movie.

Steven Knight revealed the news before the show’s final outing on the BBC earlier this year, but what could we expect to see in the film following the final episode of Peaky Blinders?

Cillian Murphy Will Be Back

One of the most welcome pieces of news surrounding the final episode is that Cillian Murphy will be reprising his role at Tommy Shelby in the film. There were serious doubts that Murphy would be involved heading into the final episode, as Tommy Shelby was given just months to live. Coupled with that the fact that his cousin Michael was also bidding for his blood, it seemed as though Tommy’s days were numbered.

However, in a final twist that nobody saw coming, it was revealed that his personal doctor was under the command of Oswald Mosley, and in Tommy’s words, the fascist movement believed that the only “person that could kill Tommy Shelby was Tommy Shelby himself.”

Final Episode Sets Up Film

It would appear that the film will be focused more on the political side of Tommy’s goals rather than the Peaky Blinders business. Tommy’s sewn up the loose ends when it came to opium deals when shooting dead his cousin Michael, and handing control of the American state run by Uncle Jack to long-standing friend Alfie Solomons. However, Tommy certainly has bigger problems to overcome back at home now, with Oswald Mosley’s fascist movement gathering momentum with the help of Adolf Hitler.

The German politician was mentioned throughout the final series of Peaky Blinders, and it would seem only a matter of time before Tommy and Hitler meet for the first time. That is likely to come in the film, as Tommy does everything within his power to slow down the fascist movement alongside Winston Churchill as the start of the Second World War draws ever closer. Obviously the show will have to move around historical facts, which means that Tommy won’t be able to assassinate either Hitler or Mosley, but it will be fascinating to see what happens.

Duke’s Rising Importance

While Tommy fights for political security in parliament, the long-term future of the Peaky Blinders themselves may rest on the shoulders of Tommy’s long-lost son Duke. His appearance in the final series of Peaky Blinders was one of the big twists reveals, and his role in the downfall of Finn could be significant.

The two clashed after Duke killed Billy Grade, who was revealed to be the traitor within the gang. Billy was a close friend to Finn, and the youngest Shelby was cast aside as he couldn’t be trusted. That led to Finn claiming that he would get revenge on Duke, which sets up a fascinating rivalry between the two and could be an important factor throughout the movie’s plot when it is released.
