The Influence of Online Gaming in Movies

As two of the world’s biggest entertainment types are online gaming and movies, it is inevitable that they would have an influence on each other. This cross-pollination has arguably had some spectacular misses across both platforms, but at the same time, it has led to some incredible experiences for gamers and moviegoers alike.

It is not easy to put your finger on which has the biggest influence on the other, but as movies were around a long time before online games, it would be logical for you to look there first. However, in recent years, it has become more of a chicken-and-egg situation.

Games being turned into movies

One of the most obvious influences is when movie makers see the popularity of a game franchise and want to make a movie adaptation of it. Warcraft and Resident Evil may be the first to spring to mind, but there is a laundry list of games that have made the move from console to multiplex. When Tomb Raider hit the screens, there was a built-in fan base who wanted to see it, but like all games, it is judged on the faithfulness to the original story. Even adopting the FPS POV for the final section of Doom did not tick all the boxes for fans of the game, making the relationship between games and movies a strained one at times.

Game influences on movies

The relationship does not stop there, as references to gaming themes in movies like Wreck-It-Ralph and Pixels heavily rely on online games for their plot. Although taken to an extreme, these movies offer an insight into the effect that video games have on modern society. Also, by being full of game-related content, these movies are attempting to resonate with gamers and attract them to the movie.

A further influence of games on movies is that the same technology used for creating games, like the Unreal Engine, has had an effect on CGI effects. This advance has improved the viewing experience of moviegoers around the world.

The effect of movies on online games

Of course, the influences work both ways, and the movie tie-in game is a staple on the list of titles available for various consoles over the years. However, one area that is often overlooked is the titles available to movie fans when they sign into an online casino. For instance, if you have a passion for online pokies in NZ or wherever it is you are, you have a range of titles to choose from with a movie theme.

Somewhere like Jackpot City can offer you a game based on fantasy movies like Lord of the Rings or superhero fare like The Dark Knight. You will also see games based on sci-fi themes like Planet of the Apes or Terminator 2, as well as comedies like Bridesmaids. As you would expect, these have all of the features and bonus rounds you would expect from a quality slot, allowing you to be fully immersed in the movie world for some responsible fun and entertainment.
