In this heady blend of neo-noir, East-meets-West, Japanese B-crime film, post-Pekinpah shoot-em-up, and arthouse meditation on middle-age regret, Mitchum plays Harry Kilmer, an ex-GI burdened with a two-way giri from his days as a Military Policeman during the occupation of Japan. When his old army buddy ends up in a fix with a Yakuza clan, Harry returns to Japan to call in that obligation. An obligation held by merciless, ex-Yakuza Kendo master Tanaka Ken.
