From one of France’s most prolific and versatile filmmakers, François Ozon (Potiche, Frantz, Swimming Pool), comes the acclaimed SUMMER OF 85, a wonderful and ardent reverie on first love and the impassioned influence it holds over those who experience it. It’s based the landmark 1982 LGBT young adult novel Dance on My Grave by British author Aidan Chambers.
When Alexis (Félix Lefebvre) capsizes off the coast of Normandy, David (Benjamin Voisin) comes to the rescue and soon opens the younger boy’s eyes to a new horizon of friendship, art and sexual bliss. David’s worldly demeanor and Jewish heritage deliver a jolt to Alexis’s traditional, working class upbringing. After Alexis begins working at the seaside shop owned by David’s mother (Valeria Bruni Tedeschi), the two lovers steal every possible moment for a fugitive kiss, a motorcycle ride or a trip to the cinema. Their relationship is soon rocked by a host of challenges, including an unexpected sexual rival (Philippine Velge) and a romantic oath that transcends life itself.
Nominated for a staggering 12 César Awards, SUMMER OF 85 won the Jury Prize for “Best Feature Film” at Europe’s annual Merlinka Film Festival.
Following its lauded reception at a host of international festivals and ongoing theatrical roll-out to the U.S.’s top markets, SUMMER OF 85 will be released on VOD (iTunes, Amazon Instant, Vudu and YouTube) beginning August 17th. The Blu-ray and DVD disc will be released for the first time on AUGUST 31ST. The Blu-ray and DVD editions will carry the suggested retail prices of $34.95 and $29.95, respectively.
Set to a sexy soundtrack by French music duo Air’s JB Dunckel that also features The Cure’s seminal 80s smash “In Between Days” and Rod Stewart’s indispensable 1975 ballad “Sailing,” SUMMER OF 85 speaks of a very special time in one young man’s coming-of-age when a six-week-long fling makes an indelible impression that will last for a lifetime. |
