GasHole (2010) Documentary illustrates how the oil companies have repeatedly squelched any viable alternatives to petroleum by killing patents, buying out the competition, manipulating supply and reaping record profits following a natural disaster. With the ongoing crises in the Middle East coupled with the tsunami and nuclear disaster in Japan, oil prices are on the rise again after a short lull. Although this spike in oil pricing is being directly tied to the coalition-led attack on Libya, has the world's oil supply been affected by either of these crises? Or, is it really a result of the machinations by the oil companies, who have a long history of profiting from crises economics? Amidst all the enduring uncertainties, the film also captures the community's indomitable spirit and ability to celebrate life. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, New Orleans mayor Mitch Landrieu, former New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin, historian Douglas Brinkley, activist actors Brad Pitt and Sean Penn and community organizer Tanya Harris.
