DVD Brief: Monty Pythons Life of Brian |
|
Description: Monty Python's insidious take on organized (and disorganized) religion (the film was banned in some parts of the United States when released in 1979) holds up after all these years. Taking place in biblical Judea, the Python crew skewers religious zealots, the Romans, the Hebrews and just about every biblical concept they can get their hands on. Brian is a poor peasant born at the same time as Christ who grows up in obscurity until he's mistaken for a Messiah by a rowdy group of savior-seeking "believers." There's no end to the religion-bashing -- and some of the bits do seem endless (the Python's could have used some judicious editing here). All in all, though, a terrific show. Image: The widescreen image is crisp and bright, with the predominant colors white, brown and dirt, as befitting the era. Sound: Adequate. All DVDs are screened on a reference Onkyo DV- S717 third-generation DVD player.
