THE BALLAD OF CABLE HOGUE (1970) New to Blu-ray with a 2017 1080p HD Remaster

Slo-mo action deconstructionist Sam Peckinpah foregoes the blood-and-guts for this off-the-beaten-path portrait of an eccentric bent on making fate bend to his will. Peckinpah revisits the West at the start of the 20th Century and walks away with work as wholly unique as Ride The High Country and The Wild Bunch. Jason Robards serves up a career defining performance as the eponymous Hogue, a prospector bent on revenge on the pair of dastards that left him to die. Discovering a watering hole in the wilderness, Hogue turns enterprising and sets up a stage coach stop that turns into a trap for the pair that done him wrong. Stella Stevens stuns as the call girl with a heart of gold, while David Warner charms as a lecherous man of the cloth. Peckinpah’s grit and sympathy (as well Lucien Ballard’s fine cinematography) are shown to fine advantage in this astounding new 1080p transfer on Blu-ray. Also features Western stalwarts Slim Pickens, Strother Martin and L.Q. Jones. Special Features: Commentary by Nick Redman, Paul Seydor, Garner Simmons and David Weddle; Featurette “The Ladiest Damn’d Lady: An Afternoon with Stella Stevens”; Theatrical Trailer (HD). 16×9 Widescreen

THE GUMBALL RALLY (1976)

New to Blu-ray with a 2017 1080p HD Remaster 70s star Michael Sarazin steers the roadshow in this seminal underground interstate road race action comedy that solidified the genre for a decade to come. Inspired by the real-life unofficial road race, Cannonball Rally, co-writer/director Charles Bail assembled an auto race ensemble par-excellence and vaulted a little known auto-enthusiasts naughty secret into a legend whose fast thrills and furious fun are still  emulated today. Bored moneyman Michael Bannon issues the code word “Gumball” to a wide array of characters who all share a thirst for the glory of the gumball trophy awarded to the first amateur auto-enthusiast to cross the country, from New York to California, any way they can. Now all the comedy, crashes, action and antics are brought back to sun-washed 70s super-cool style on this freshly minted 1080p high-performance high definition Blu-ray transfer. Also stars Gary Busey, Norman Burton, and a show-stealing Raul Julia. Includes Theatrical Trailer (HD). 16×9 Widescreen
