"The movie business is macabre. Grotesque.
It is a combination of a football game
and a brothel."

ON DANGEROUS GROUND (1951) on Blu-ray

Nicholas Ray’s fervid Film Noir classic gets a new chiaroscuro contract on life thanks to this scintillating 2016 4k master created from the original camera negative. And while our eyes can feast on the visionary camerawork from Ray and director of photography George E. Diskant (They Live By Night, Riff-Raff), our ears get a thrill from Bernard Herrmann’s astonishing score given ample room to breathe on Blu-ray disc. Robert Ryan plays Jim Wilson, a good detective losing control as the city’s sado-masochistic dance between criminals and cops threatens to consume him. Sent to the mountains to cool off and assist in a murder investigation, Jim Wilson finds himself trapped between Old Testament vengeance and New Testament forgiveness. Ida Lupino plays the unlikely light in Wilson’s darkness and Ward Bond demonstrates a different side as a grief-stricken father. Newly remastered.
