Years after going into hiding as a result of a successful assassination of the minister of mines in the Congo, a former Special Forces hitman (Sean Penn) suffering from PTSD returns to that country only to find himself the target of a hit squad. He again goes into hiding and attempts to reconnect with his old squad and his old girlfriend (whom he had abandoned for her own safety) to discover who has put a price on his head.
