Hailed as a darkly comic psychodrama during its official festival runs at Cannes, Toronto and New York Film Festivals, SIBYL by Justin Triet (In Bed with Victoria) is coming to VOD (iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, Vudu, YouTube) beginning October 13 from Music Box Films Home Entertainment.
The French director’s latest film stars: Virginie Efira (In Bed with Victoria, Elle), Adèle Exarchopoulos (Blue is the Warmest Color), Gaspard Ulliel (Saint Laurent), Sandra Hüller (Toni Erdmann), Laure Calamy (Call My Agent), and Niels Schneider (Heartbeats); SIBYL is currently running in virtual cinemas across the U.S. top markets.
SIBYL follows a psychotherapist who decides to quit her practice and return to writing instead. As Sibyl starts dropping patients, she begins to struggle with excess time and a lack of inspiration–until she gets a call from Margot (Adèle Exarchopoulos), a young actress wrapped up in a dramatic affair with her costar, Igor, who happens to be married to the film’s director. Becoming further enmeshed in Margot’s life, Sibyl starts to blur past and present, fiction with reality, and the personal with the professional as she begins to use Margot’s life as source material for her novel.
This is the second collaboration with rising star Virginie Efira and writer-director Justine Triet, which has been called a “highly pleasurable collaboration” by Variety’s Guy Lodge. Lodge goes on to hail Efira as “A first-class leading lady of consistently expanding range and élan — with the emotional honesty and deadpan pluck to pull off the more outrageous character turns.”
Director Justine Triet made her debut feature with La Bataille de Solférino (Age of Panic), which earned her a César nomination for Best First Film. Her second feature, In Bed with Victoria, starring Virginie Efira, opened the 2016 Cannes Critics’ Week and received five César nominations including Best Film and Best Actress.
