“NOSTALGIA takes place in a neighborhood of Naples, but the humanity of the characters and their stories are universal”, said Martone. “Everyone remembers the smells and the flavors of our adolescence, everyone regrets to have lost them, we all know that sense of guilt towards our parents getting older and older, and everyone remembers those friends, for whom we felt a certain kind of love, that faded away with the time passing. And we all know our hometowns, the cities we come from and in which, together with the beauty of their nature, culture and of the wealthier areas, can coexist social issues, rage, abuse of power.”
NOSTALGIA world premiered at the 75th Cannes Film Festival in competition for the Palm d’Or, and was shortlisted at the European Film Awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Screenplay. The film also took multiple accolades during the 2022 Nastro d’Argento (Silver Ribbon) Awards including Best Director for Martone and Best Actor for Favino. The film will play the Palm Springs International Film Festival in early January.
The Hollywood Reporter hailed the film, stating NOSTALGIA is a ““surprisingly absorbing film” with “a formidable cast, assured direction and skillful camerawork”, while Guy Lodge at Variety praised Martone’s direction, calling NOSTALGIA his “most rewarding film in years.” Additionally, The Guardian raved, saying “Mario Martone’s beautifully shot and superbly composed film teeters on the edge of something special”, further calling it “a strong, deeply felt, valuable movie.” Screen Daily referred to NOSTALGIA as “a passionate, angry film that is full of atmosphere and great performances,” and Deadline noted “the deep dive into this specific urban milieu is gratifying.”
NOSTALGIA will arrive February 21 on VOD/digital platforms including iTunes/Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, Vudu, Vimeo, and through local cable & satellite providers. |
