Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, “Deadpool” tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson who, after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life. The surprise Spring smash hit opened with $132,434 in the middle of February and went on to earn more than $355 mil in the U.S. and another $399 mil overseas, ensuring a sequel (in fact, Fox has given “Deadpool 2” a green light — and it’s scheduled for 2017). Rotten Tomatoes gave the film an 83 percent critics rating (with a 92 percent audience rating), calling “Deadpool” “Fast, funny, and gleefully profane, the fourth-wall-busting ‘Deadpool’ subverts superhero film formula with wildly entertaining — and decidedly non-family-friendly — results.” Fox announced today a May 10 DVD and Blu-ray release – with more details to come soon.
