Criterion March Releases

This March, Criterion will celebrate the vitality and excitement of art-house cinema past and present. First is this year’s acclaimed “The Great Beauty,” the sumptuous latest from the immensely talented Italian director Paolo Sorrentino, and Italy’s submission for the 2013 Academy Awards. Also in March, Criterion looks back at the golden age of European art-house cinema with Ingmar Bergman’s transformative masterpiece “Persona,” starring Liv Ullmann and Bibi Andersson. In addition, the month will bring “The Freshman,” the indelible silent comedy star Harold Lloyd’s most popular film; virtuoso documentarian an Errol Morris’ “A Brief History of Time,” about the incredible Stephen Hawking; Akira Kurosawa’s classic “The Hidden Fortress,” the film that inspired “Star Wars”; and “George Washington,” the American independent drama that launched the career of David Gordon Green.
