Criterion March Releases: ‘Celine and Julie Go Boating’ Finally Makes It to U.S. DVD/Blu-ray

In March, Jacques Rivette’s long-unavailable Céline and Julie Go Boating, one of the most exuberantly inventive and utterly enchanting films of the French New Wave, will join the Criterion Collection, making its debut on US home video. Acerbic everyman Albert Brooks travels to the afterlife in Defending Your Life, a divinely entertaining feat of philosophical filmmaking co-starring Meryl Streep and newly restored in 4K. Mike Leigh’s Palme d’Or–winning Secrets & Lies, a devastating exploration of the fault lines running beneath a family’s ordinary life, will make its Blu-ray debut. Senegalese iconoclast Djibril Diop Mambéty’s convention-shattering debut, Touki bouki, will be available as stand-alone Blu-ray and DVD editions. And that’s not all: our previously announced Blu-ray box set World of Wong Kar Wai collects seven of the master filmmaker’s most ravishing films in stunning new restorations.
