"The movie business is macabre. Grotesque.
It is a combination of a football game

June Criterion Titles_1This June, The Criterion Collection welcomes one of Stanley Kubrick’s greatest films: the still shocking and hilarious “Dr. Strangelove,” starring Peter Sellers in a triple-role tour de force. But that’s just scratching the surface of a month jam-packed with remarkable titles, including two early, influential dramas by titans of cinema: Jean Renoir’s violent love triangle story “La chienne” and Michelangelo Antonioni’s devastating tale of female friendship “Le amiche”; a charming classic from Hollywood’s golden age, Alexander Hall’s supernatural comedy “Here Comes Mr. Jordan” (remade twice, as “Heaven Can Wait” and “Down to Earth”); the visionary animated cult classic “Fantastic Planet,” directed by René Laloux; and a recent international masterwork from Olivier Assayas, “Clouds of Sils Maria,” starting the unlikely dream team of Juliette Binoche and Kristen Stewart (who won a César award for her role).
