Criterion July Titles

Criterion July Titles_11Coming-of-age stories dominate July’s titles from The Criterion Collection, from “The Black Stallion,” the visually dazzling classic about a boy and the horse that saves his life directed by Carroll Ballard, to “Here Is Your Life,” the spellbinding debut from Jan Troell, director of “The Emigrants.”  Experience two more unorthodox love stories: Stephen Frears’s “My Beautiful Laundrette,” featuring a breakout performance from Daniel Day-Lewis as a skinhead in love with a Pakistani man in Margaret Thatcher–era England, and Alain Resnais’s shattering “Hiroshima mon amour,” the French New Wave masterpiece about a French woman and a Japanese man finding solace in each other’s arms amid a destroyed world. All this plus a Blu-ray upgrade of Criterion’s collector’s set featuring both Robert Siodmak and Don Siegel’s versions of “The Killers,” based on the same Ernest Hemingway crime story.
