Art Thief' Makes Off With Digital Sales, VOD June 18

Art Thief is based on the unsolved Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum heist of 1990 in Provincetown when two thieves disguised as Boston police stole thirteen works of art, including Rembrandt’s only seascape, The Storm on the Sea of Galilee. The film stars Max Deacon, whose credits include Pretty Little Liars and Into the Storm. Deacon plays Kevin Deeley, an incarcerated art enthusiast who doesn’t have the means to be a collector. Deeley becomes an artist and then a thief who transforms himself into a respected art collector and is accepted into Boston’s upper social circles.

Director Arthur Egeli’s inspiration for the film came from a 2018 WBUR podcast episode “Last Seen.” Egeli is a third-generation portrait painter and gallery owner and co-wrote the script with Ian Bowater and Heather Egeli. Arthur Egeli’s previous credits include “The Black Emperor of Broadway” about actor Charles S. Gilpin in playwright Eugene O’Neill’s groundbreaking “Emperor Jones.” “Murder on the Cape,” about the Christa Worthington murder.
