photo for Winter's Tale Set in a mythic New York City at the beginning of the 20th century, and spanning more than a 100 years, “Winter’s Tale” is a fantasy about miracles, crossed destinies, and the age-old battle between good and evil. Peter Lake (Colin Farrell) is a master thief, working for a demon posing as the gangster Pearly Soames (Russell Crowe). When Peter decides to leave Pearly’s gang, his mentor marks him for death and sends his gang after him. Rescued by his guardian angel, a mysterious white horse, Peter decides to commit one last crime before leaving the city. But he never expected to have his heart stolen by the beautiful Beverly Penn (Brown Findlay), whom he encounters while burglarizing her parent’s mansion. They immediately fall in love, but their love is doomed: She burns with a deadly form of consumption, and Peter has been marked for a much more violent death by his one-time mentor. Peter desperately tries to save his true love, across time, against the forces of darkness, even as Pearly does everything in his power to take him down — winner take all and loser be damned.
