THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN (1964) on Blu-ray The divine Ms. Debbie Reynolds delivers a career-defining performance in this film adaptation of the Broadway smash that doubles our delight thanks to the audio-visual magic of High Definition and blazing talent. Debbie plays the redoubtable Rocky Mountain rags-to-riches heroine who wouldn’t let anything drag her down – not circumstance, class prejudice, nor nautical disaster. Screen-debuting Harve Presnell reprises his stage role of Johnny Brown, whose love for Molly survives their journey from backwoods cabin to high society mansion. Also featuring Ed Begley, Jack Kruschen, and Hermione Baddeley. And the beautiful HD picture is only half the story – the soaring score has never sounded crisper thanks to a DTS 5.1 audio BD presentation. Fast Talking, Noir Walking

LEE TRACY 4-FILM COLLECTION (1937-39) Patter master Lee Tracy (The Front Page) commands the spiel in this collection culled from his post-Code career that sees him playing a slippery shyster, a news hound, a screen hack and  a circus promoter. Margot Grahame co-stars in CRIMINAL LAWYER (1937), in which Lee plays a defense attorney turned DA caught between his methods and a murder. BEHIND THE HEADLINES (1937) finds Tracy playing a wireless reporter competing with his news hen girlfriend (Diana Gibson) while trying to gum up the plans of a group of gangsters. CRASHING HOLLYWOOD (1938) sees Lee play a screen scribe from hunger collaborating on a studio score with an ex-con (Paul Guilfoyle). Finally, in FIXER DUGAN (1939) Tracy plays a circus pro scrambling to keep his shows afloat while caring for a young orphan (Virginia Weidler).

THE GREAT JEWEL ROBBER (1950) Inspired by the real life exploits of the thief known as “The Hollywood Raffles” (but it could have been “the Los Angeles Lupin”) this crime picture depicts the prison rags to stolen riches story of Gerard Dennis (David Brian). Escaping from a Canadian prison farm, Dennis makes his way across the border and into the arms of a series of women that eventually land him in Los Angeles, and in the jewelry boxes of society’s elite. With Marjorie Reynolds and Perdita Chandler. Newly Remastered

NO QUESTIONS ASKED (1951) Barry Sullivan stars as an insurance man gone bad who’s got the purloined goods and the big-time plays after his faithless spouse (Arlene Dahl) ditches him for a guy rolling in the green. But nothing spells sap more than a hard man with a spurned heart. Quicker than you can say fatale, the femme returns complete with a solid frame-up for the plan-man. COUNT THE HOURS (1953) This early effort from directing titan Don Siegel stars MacDonald Carey as a small town lawyer striving to save his convicted client from the countdown of the kill clock. After a pair of horrific midnight murders, a small minded rural town is quick to blame a migrant worker (John Craven) for the deed – and to save his pregnant wife (Teresa Wright) from the stress,  he’s willing to play patsy. But the hour of execution nears, the migrant worker’s lawyer realizes another man may have done the deed. Now if can convince the law before it’s too late… Newly Remastered

STAKEOUT ON DOPE STREET (1958) Irvin Kershner (The Empire Strikes Back) makes his feature directorial debut with a noir about a trio of delinquents that accidentally land a treasure trove of dope and get in over their heads thanks to their greedy dreams. After delivery boy Ves (Jonathon Haze) discovers a suitcase of heroin  dropped during a deadly mob ambush, he and his pals, wannabe artist Jim (Yale Wexler) and bodybuilder Nick (Morris Miller) mistake the contraband for cosmetics. Dumping the dope and pawning the case, the trio is soon informed of the folly and makes a mad-dash to crash the dope business with their sudden stash. But killer crooks are coming for their jolts – and how. Punctuated with a cool jazz score by the Hollywood Chamber Jazz Group and executive produced by Roger Corman. Newly Remastered

JACK OF DIAMONDS (1967) This swinging sixties heist caper plays like a Day-Glo hybrid of To Catch a Thief and Danger Diabolik. George Hamilton stars as Jack of Diamonds, protégé of master cat-burglar Ace of Diamonds (Joseph Cotten). With Ace nearing retirement, he urges Jack to slow down his criminal activity. While Jack responds with a series of celeb cameo heists (Zsa Zsa Gabor, Carroll Baker, Lilli Palmer), he befriends a rival thief Olga while breaking in aboard a luxury liner. So it’s time for a final big score – the unstealable Zaharoff Diamonds. Newly Remastered
