From Owning DVDs to Streaming: Which Is Better?

Why DVD’s Are Better Than Streaming

From Owning DVDs to Streaming: Which Is Better? In the early years we all had videotape cassettes on which we could record our favorite movies from the television. Of course, you could also buy your original copies of the movies. The digital age then gave way to an invention that we called DVD’s. Looking like a CD, you could now own your favorite movie on a disc that worked in pretty much the same way as a CD would.

The shift from VHS to DVD promised to get us better quality movies, enhanced colors and sound. We could now watch never-before-seen footage as well as “the making of the movies,” together with many other bonus features that you could watch. Your favorite movie now became so much more than just a movie. It was almost as if you we part of the experience.

Then, just as we became used to a “normal” or regular DVD disc, the Blu-ray DVD disc was invented. Blue-ray surpasses the regular DVD in its capability of storage space on a disc. It also promised an even better-quality picture and sound and could even be converted into 3D. Our viewing of movies was taken to an entirely new level, beyond anything that we thought was capable.

And Then There Was Streaming

For some time, life was normal as we became used to Blu-ray DVD’s. We started to purchase all of our favorite movies on DVD and Blu-ray as VHS was phased out of existence. Life was blissful. On an unexpected day we were introduced to streaming. To stream you simply purchase a license with a streaming network and just about all of your favorite movies are available on said streaming channel. The cost of subscription per month is significantly less than purchasing the movies.

DVD vs. Streaming

The thing with streaming is that you can only stream what is available on the network, or you can find other entertainment when you visit other websites. Even though the streaming networks each offer a vast number of movies and series that you can watch, it is simply impossible for any one streaming network to host all the movies and series that there is. While their selection is enormous, it is not all inclusive. As can be expected.

Another factor to keep in mind with streaming is that the movies and series that are on the networks are there for a limited time only. That limited time is more often than not quite a long time, but it is limited none the less. For this reason, you never own the movie or series. You can only watch it for as long as when it is available on the network.

Movies and series on streaming networks are also not inclusive of any of the special features that are available to you when you purchase a DVD. When you opt to watch a movie or series, most of the time that is all you are watching. Pretty much like in the old days of putting a VHS tape into the player and only watching the movie. Considering then all the extras, Blue-ray is probably still the way to go.
