From Comedy to Action: A Look Back at Some of Amazon Prime’s Top Featured Series

Among all of the new releases that land on our television screens daily, it’s sometimes easy to forget about the slightly older series that are still available to watch on Amazon Prime. With so many highly-rated television series on Amazon Prime, it would be a shame to neglect the slightly older stars of the show. Hence, we thought we would take you through some of the top series that should be on your watch list, despite them being a few years old.

Vikings

First released in 2013, this series ended in 2020 and followed the life of Ragnar Lothbrok and his family as they transformed from farmers to Vikings. While some characters are based on some of the most iconic Vikings that date back to the 8th century, this series goes some way to add an element of true history into the fictional storyline. In doing so, the series doesn’t fall short on action. Telling the Viking story, the scenes certainly don’t shy away from demonstrating the triumphs Vikings faced, including their battles to invade England. Perhaps not for the most squeamish in some scenes, the series demonstrates what it was like to be a Viking and what they were willing to do to explore new lands.

Testament to the success of this series is its appearance in other forms of entertainment that go beyond the television screen. The main characters have found themselves transported to the land of casinos, quite the contrary to the England they once invaded, where they can be seen on slot machines listed on sites like NetEnt. This has proven an inspiration in the online gaming industry and with pa no deposit bonus development, the Vikings slots can be found on an array of sites.

Good Omens

Whereas Vikings is perhaps a serious series, jampacked with history, war and drama, Good Omens takes a rather different direction. Based on the novel by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, the show is completely fictional and fantasy in nature, with the two main characters taking the form of an angel and a devil. Across the one and only series, these two characters can be seen working both with and against each other in an attempt to prevent Armageddon. While battle is present in this series, much like Vikings, it cannot be compared to the warriors seen in the Vikings’ battles, but rather takes a more humorous approach.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Stepping away from battle completely, this series, which was first released in 2017, follows the life of married Midge Maisel as she swaps her simple mom life for a life as an aspiring comedian. Set in the 1950s, the series displays the hardships faced by women in this time via Midge’s struggles to pursue her dream career. The most recent series, season 3, ended on a cliff-hanger after Midge was seen on tour across Vegas, which saw her perform in elegant concert halls and glamourous casinos. Perhaps one of the biggest reasons for this show’s success is its witty portrayal of the 1950s lifestyle, which is achieved through tone of voice, clothing, and set design.

Here we have demonstrated that while keeping an eye on new TV releases is of course, a good thing, as you can find something that really suits you, it’s important to flick back a few years and see what series you may have missed.
