Description: This is the DVD that set the standard for "live" audio commentary and extra added features. The 1984 comedy blockbuster, starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis, was startlingly original and kooky. From the concept -- a trio of paranormal investigators set up shop as self-styled ghost busters with the goal of eliminating the ectoplasmic spirits invading Manhattan -- through its execution -- wild ghosts, monsters and goblins well before computer special effects (who can ever forget the "evil," giant Stay Puft Marshmallow man?) -- "Ghostbusters" was a zany roller coaster ride of laughs and hilarity.

Columbia TriStar pulled out all the stops for this one: delightful animated menus recreating the New York skyline, an audio commentary featuring Ramis, director Ivan Reitman and co-producer Joe Medjuck in silhouette watching the film while commenting on it; split-screen compare between storyboards and actual footage; a "Spook Cemetery" of deleted scenes; before and after special effects using the DVD angle feature; two documentaries: one made during production, with behind-the-scenes footage, another a new documentary on the film with interviews with Aykroyd, Ramis and Reitman; subtitled production notes that can be turned on while viewing the film; a special effects team documentary; conceptual drawings, photos and more.

Image: A crisp, clean remastering of a delightfully visual film.

Sound: Surprisingly robust sound and effects.
